Default Crazy Ghost Starter

I have a 99 blazer 4x4 4 door and just got started hand washing it in the drive way an just wet it down.

I'm five feet away from it and the starter engages all by itself!!! It doesn't have remote start and the keys where inside my house.

I scramble around, get a wrench and unhook the battery, thankfully the starter quit then. I waited a few minutes to think about what happened and now as soon as I try to re hook the battery the starter will start turning. HELP!!

Don't see how it could be the ign switch since the keys weren't even close to it but I'm open to any answer at this point.

Update just went back out and hooked the battery up without incident, she started right up no problems. Don't know what to think, I am sober.

Ok, have let the Blazer sit since the problem. After I hooked the battery back up I just parked it under the car port, GF doesn't trust it and won't even try to drive it.

Today I tried to start it and the battery was almost dead, put it on the charger and got it charged up but it won't start at all now. Turns over good just no go. I used to be a mechanic, got hurt and real bad and disabled so I can't do much myself, and that was years ago so I'm stuck in the 50-80's as far as knowledge goes.

Anyway with her help pulled the air intake cover off and gave it a few squirts of carb cleaner to see if it would even cough, nothing not a hint of doing anything. So that makes me think spark is the problem. Pulled coil wire got spark there so I pulled the cap and rotor. Read that they are problematic and they looked bad with thick deposits but not bad enough to cause a no start from my experience on old stuff. Soo she's headed to town to get a cap and rotor and I'll see but don't have any confidence.

I also saw the schrader valve on the fuel line and depressed to valve, had a pretty good squirt come out. Going to try and find my fuel pressure gauge but since it didn't even try to hit on carb cleaner I just don't know what to think.

Any help would be appreciated.

Holy crap, GF just called with the price on Delco cap and rotor. I may need the paddles to get my heart started back up. Oh well they look bad enough to replace just for preventative maintenance but the price is surprising, I'm too old and out of the loop I guess for sure.

if you want delco parts for cheap, which these trucks love, and are not in a rush (even with 2-3 day shipping it will usually be cheaper than a chain store) .. get them from RockAuto Parts Catalog

You definitely have a spark problem if no go on the carb cleaner.

Well I got the new cap and rotor on it a few minutes ago and it started right up. I'm still puzzled why the thing tried to start on its own and the cap and rotor just didn't look bad enough to cause a no start but I don't have any experience with this year/engine vehicle so it could very well have been bad enough. Just concerned there is another problem, well there has to be for it to try the ghost starting thing.

Thanks for the help and I will be looking up Rock Auto Parts.
