Default engine control computer help

A few weeks my 1987 s10 2.8 started acting up and finally cut off on me and wouldn't start. Long story short it ended up being a bad engine control computer or ecm. The mechanic i had it at got a used one and put in it and it worked fine. Less than a week later it started doing it again. Hesitant to crank, have to turn on it a while then it would fire and wouldn't have an issue until it got cut off. The next day it wouldn't crank at all, just turn. I flahed it and got 2 codes,a bad temp sensor and total ecm failure. So i went and got a brand new ecm and installed it and now the check engine light is going crazy flashing really fast and still just cranking but no fire. So my question is what would make the check engine light do that and would a bad temp sensor make the computer fail? And if so are we talking about the same temp sensor at the thermostat?
