Default fuel gauge and 4x4 cluster

So i have been having an intermittant issue with the fuel gauge needle and the 4x4 button panel. However its nearly broken 90% of the time now. the fuel needle will be 3/4th full sometimes, then drop to empty (most of the time on empty). I noticed there was a correlation with that needle issue and my 4x4 buttons...

Whenever the fuel gauge goes dead (to empty) the 4x4 buttons do not work anymore. then when they work.. both work. It sounds like a grounding problem maybe? i checked all of the grounds i could find on the chassis and cleaned them pretty good. But still no improvment.

does anyone have any other ideas, or if this is a ground, do you know where that culpret groun is?

P.S. I saw yesterday that the temp gauge just went to max hot (nearly a full 360 degrees around the guage) but this has only happened once and does not always happen when the fuel and 4x4 go out)

Thank you in advance!

Default

reading through some posts, i found this might be caused by my alternator. I thought maybe the voltage regular was off, but i went out and tested it and it seems pretty spot on. i get about 11.8v turned off, and get 14.2v while its running.

Im kind of still assuming there is a bad ground somewhere. So after work im going to see if i can find where the ground is that the sending unit is hooked up to.
