Sounds like a bad flasher unit. I'm safe to assume the clicking sound stops as well?

If so I would target the flasher unit which I believe in the 98's is located behind the glove box.

Remove the contents of your glove box before pressing on the retention pin in the left top corner to allow the box to swing down into the footwell allowing for access behind it. Flasher unit will be a small little relay box on the right side with a white or green retention strap around the outside of it.

Default ok

I can't remove the glove box because the vehicle is modified to drive on the right hand side is there another way to get to it??

I would have to see pictures on this to be sure.

I assume by modified, it was originally a left hand drive?

Since it was modified to be a RHD.. When the flasher is working, are you able to hear the clicking? If so, locate that clicking sound to find the flasher...

The hazard switch has been known to cause weirdness as well. Something to check if you can't find the flasher, or the flasher is fine.
