I have a 94 k1500 blazer with hazy lenses front and back. I've seen a number of restoration kits on the market but wanted to see if anyone here has any input or suggestions before I commit to any one product. I am hoping that polishing them up will improve the night time visibility. I would like to find something that will allow me to clean up at least the headlights and possibly the tail lights without purchasing additional materials. I have the basic cordless & corded drills.

 

Only product i buy is meguires plastic polish in a bottle. I use wet/dry sandpaper starting at 800 or 1000 and go to 2000 then polish with a rag. No need for some fancy kit just the polishing paste cause it has a sealer in it to keep the plastic from yellowing as fast.

 

^^^ X2, Only thing i do differently is i apply a few coats of automotive clear to them. Keeps them nice and clear without yellowing.

 

OK--thanks for that. Do I look for the sandpaper at the automotive store or other? Do you sand by hand?

 

I have had really good luck with sanding, with 2000 grit sand paper then using meguiars scratch x 2.0, ive used it on headlights, bumper signals, tail lights. and have had really good results.

And yes, sand by hand, wet sand to be specific. soak the paper in the water for 10 minutes before starting, add a little soap (dish detergent) to the water as well to help lubricate the paper.

 

Before spending money on it,borrow your brothers regular white toothpaste and a rag. wipe it on,buff it out like you would anything else. It'll clean it up pretty good,not perfect but it'll help. i found this idea on google and tried it on my dads truck,worked pretty good. got alot of the haze off.

 

Toothpaste works, and it sounds weird but sometimes peanutbutter also. The problem with them is they have nothing to protect the plastic from yellowing.
