Help,installing a horn button.
Changed my steering wheel to a grant wheel i got from at the self pull yard. It doesn't have the horn kit,and i dont wanna spend what they cost. I rarely use the horn but this morning i wish i had it because of a idiot in front of me.
I was gonna install just a push button for the horn on my dash.
I THINK the ring in the column grounds the horn, thus completing the circuit and making it work when you press it right? So can i Run a wire from the horn fuse to the button, then a ground from the button to the "chassis/something near it i can find that works" So that way when i press the button,it grounds the horn and "burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"?
Few questions, how many amps does the horn pull?
Does it matter which side of the fuse i pigtail off of?
16 gauge wire good nuff?

the horn is actually powered by positive not a ground. the steering column does send out a ground signal when the horn is pressed but it goes to a relay which converts it into positive.
so basically find a 12v source, the horn fuse would be a good source and just run that to the button then to the little tab on the horn. i always hated having a button for a horn, if someone cuts you off by the time you find the button they are long gone
