Hey guys, I installed a new set of aftermarket headlamps. They're basically the same thing as stock, but they have black housings on the inside. Another difference is the new headlamps have a bulb shield in them. My stock blazer lights did not. When I first installed the hids in the stock headlamps the light was very clean and spread out good. Now with these new lights, it is very blotchy and scattered, and when I pull up to a wall you can see a curvy pattern instead of a clean beam of light. I'm almost positive the bulb shield (the little piece of metal that covers the tip of the bulb INSIDE the headlamp itself). I drive an 01 LS. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it! I'm thinking about cutting the bulb shield off through the bulb hole.

Ok not knowing the year of the blazer you have placed your HID's in my past experences the newer the models 2003 the bulb reflector is more concentrated pattern than reflectors in older Blazers.. its about 40% more less scatter.. if you place 6k HID's in a 1999 Blazer stock headlamps low beam measure the distance then take same 6k same brand or even lamps in this case you will have a longer narrow stronger clearer view and light. Inside the stock headlamps they reflect almost 120 degrees and you have "bounceback" giving that "glow" but not the desired beam you expect with HID's Rule of thumb if your Blazer is older than 2003 best to invest in projectors they have the newer technology and direct your light in a proper safe manner..

The fact of the matter is those housings you bought are not meant for HID's. The fact you have a "glare cap" over the bulb however is a good thing since it keeps a lot of glare out of oncoming driver's eyes.

If you're willing to take the risk however, for the BEST results I would suggest checking out HIDplanet and the theretrofitsource.com, spending some time/money and retrofitting some TSX projectors into your headlights. You'll be very impressed and pleased with the results.
