If you don't plan on adding any electronics or electrical components to the existing system, there's no real need for it.

Yep, then you'll definitely want to do it. In the article, they went with 4AWG, I know some people prefer 0AWG (which seems a bit excessive to me). I went with 2AWG to do mine with (I haven't done mine yet, but I haven't added on any electronics yet, either), just because it's what's used on the trucks and equipment I work on.

I went with 4awg and it solved most of my drainage issues. But there is a point at which you will need a bigger alt. No getting around it.

This, I went with 4awg as well. but like you said, eventually will want to upgrade the alt.
