New member with Jimmy problem - Ignition Interlock Woes?
#1
Hi y'all. As the title says I'm a new member to this board and I have a 2000 Jimmy 2wd 4dr. With automatic trans, Buckets and console
My key switch will not turn off and I have already replaced the solenoid in the column and also the neutral safety switch on the trans which I was told energizes the column switch.
The only way I can turn the key to the off position and remove it is by sticking something in the access whole in the cover and although it's only a minor annoyance I'd like to fix the problem.
Any ideas on where to go next? The shifter interlock works fine.

Ignition switch...

Ignition switch itself? Hmm, I hadn't thought of that since I thought the electric solenoid worked independantly of the switch. When I had the whole thing disassembled it did not appear the switch interlock solenoid was getting power as it did not extend as it should when the key was turned off. I guess it couild be the switch but man am I ever tired of throwing parts at this thing. It's been a great vehicle for going on 5 years but parts aint cheap and I've replaced a whole bunch of them.

Good morning everyone. I posted in another thread about my problem but this looks to be the correct Area so here goes again.
I have a 2000 Jimmy 4dr 2wd with a the console shifted automatic. Among other nitpicking problems I've had with this truck over the years(and nothing is cheap to fix, Grrrr) the ignition interlock issue is a real pain. I pulled the little access cover so I could use a pen to push the solenoid in so I can turn the key to the off position but I really want it fixed.
I've already replaced the solenoid on the column. Which I now know is not getting power when the shifter is placed into park. I was told the neutral safety switch was the culprit, Changed that also and no change.
The problem started out intermittant but now the key will never turn off without manually pushing in the switch interlock solenoid, Thanks to GM for at least designing in an access whole in the column covers. What a PITA!
I'm thinking maybe the switch on the base of the shifter itself may be my culprit since originally wiggling the shifter would do the trick. But that switch does not look to be replaceable. HELP!

*Moving to Lighting & Electrical & Combining with your 2nd thread*
A search for "console+shift+interlock" or "key+lock+solenoid" may turn up some relevant threads. Check them out and post back up if you have further questions. I will respond when I have more time.
*EDIT* - Something like this thread --> Cannot remove key sometimes perhaps?
