Default Nobody knows how to open rear hatch

Howdy, Seems like if your rear hatch don't open you better have a fold DOWN door because there is no one on the interwebs explaining how to get a rear hatch to open if you have a door that raises UP to open' Hopefully someone on this site can help. I have a 2000 s10 4x4 4.3. I can get the rear window to open with the dash button and the keyless remote. But door will not open with keyless remote, I can hear clicking of actuator, or rear handle. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like the plastic clip is broke on your gate latch. You can get the trim panel off of your gate enough to pull the rod to get the gate open and the clip is really cheap to buy. I have fixed a few at my shop doing the same thing because over time the clip gets brittle and breaks. Hope this helps and is your problem because a little time and a couple dollar fix.

Default how to open rear hatch

Thanks jaymzz .Can you be more specific about the rod to open door? I can push the panel back enuff to look down inside, are you talkin about the rod that the handle pulls up? because that works. Is there a way to get the panel off without breaking anything?

Found this picture for you. The green clip in the picture usually is the one to break. You won't be able to get the trim panel all the way off but can enough to sneak in there to get the gate open.

jaymzz,By pulling back panel far enuff to sneak in there to get gate open I guess you're talkin about pulling on panel next to floor. Otherwise I will do what the one guy in thread you found who made a hole in panel to get it open. And could'nt find pic of green clip.Too many of 'em.

And I take it once door is open I can get panel off to fix latch.

I usually get it loose enough to go from the top because if I remember the bottom and side has screws that you can't get to with the gate shut.

Default rear hatch won't open

I finally got it open, I almost got the panel off with the gate closed but I was able to see how to use a rod to open latch and open gate,I don't know why handle wasn't working but is now and hit latch with wd-40. Now what don't work is the button on gate to open glass but I can open that with inside button.
