Default Obd 1.5 paperclip trick?

I have a 95 with the 16 pin obd 1.5 connector. Can't get it tested anywhere. Seen and read about a paperclip trick on OBD1 and the check engine light flashes you the trouble codes. Can this be done on OBD 1.5 too?

Yes. The paper clip goes to pins 4 and 6 of the OBD port. Turn the key to run. It will flash code 12 three times to show it's operating correctly then flash the trouble code.

Ok... This is probably a dumb question, but the only paper clip I have is painted, do I only need the tips cleared of paint or the whole thing?

Definitely scrape the paint off to make sure you get a good connection. Remember always, loose wires make fires.
