odemetar spazing out no auto 4wd
I know there is post around this forum that touch on the subjects but cant seem to find a clear answer. So my problem is my odometer flashes on and off and shows random things. The other day it said japan. if i tap over the odometer it will go back to normal. the other issue my auto 4wd does not work. Hi and lo do though. if i hit the auto button it flashes for 15 seconds and goes back to 2hi. A buddy of mine says it is just repalcing a ten dollar piece but requires the engine to be pulled. any help would be great

You very likely have two separate issues.
The odometer issue sounds like a loose connection somewhere in the cluster. What's very odd and something I have never heard before in all my time working with these vehicles is that it actually reads out words and not just gibberish or spastic on/off.
The Auto4wd problem may be a problem with the front axle engagement. Could be a vacuum line problem, a problem with the electronic vacuum solenoid, or with the actuator/cable itself.

Texas; Can you tell us what you found? I'm interested that you mentioned "Auto 4wd" was not working. If you have the "Auto" button, you also have a 4Hi button. Did 4x4 work in that mode?
