I have a '95 two door with OEM long style overhead console with the digital display modes showing TEMP and Compass . I've been trying to upgrade the functions to show MPG and Range by replacing the 2 mode display with units pulled from the local JY but none seem to work after 30 seconds or so , they are from newer year '98-2000 vehicles . Does anyone have a Blazer or other from the same year as mine (1995) that has a full function display ? I have two fully working displays but they only work on '98 up I guess ... did the '95 models come with more than just TEMP and Compass ?

I think there is a write up about an overhead display conversion in the DIY section. Search is worth a try!

you need one from the 95-97 models
the 98+ models will not work with the older console

Yep - that's correct ...it seems that the overhead console display units pulled from 98 or newer won't work with the older generation (in my case '95) signal/OBD sensor info . The display blanks out after 30 secs or so . So now I have two full function displays I can't use ...

Looks like a display just may have found a new home

edited: update - can't seem to find a multi-mode display in any of the yards in my area for my '95 ... only '98 or better and I have several complete units ... to give away or trade .

I just got a spare from him, comes with parts mine doesn't have. There's a 5 pin port with board that seems to have a couple of compass chips on it, can I disregard this or do I need to figure out how to install it?

My old one is one the left, new on the right.
Thanks

Did 1995 offer a full DIC? I thought it was just compass/temp.
Unless your truck is OBD2 and 1995 wasn't that far ahead yet, they had an OBD1/OBD2 hybrid and some were still OBD1 (I think). A 1996 and later DIC won't work with your truck.
