Arrow replacing the PCM

ive heard i have to have it "coded" for my VIN..someone else said it doesnt matter.

so, for my 1996 4 door, 2 wheel drive blazer, what do i need? should i go yard shopping and just find one thats a 2 wheel drive 4 door 96 and swap it out, or actually have one specifically made for my VIN?

i really dont want to run some wire and splice into my harness for this fuel pump issue..if its the PCM like ive been told, cant i just replace it?
