Hi there, I need some help with this!

There is at the top of inside driverside, when you're in the car left side above my head,( left door) a circular thing whith a lot of small holes in it.
Sometimes it makes a sound of a mimi compressor?
Can anyone please tell me what it is or does?
I don't know how to describe it better, Im Dutch!
