Default turn the key, but nothing happens

A few day ago my 89 full size Blazer starting giving me trouble when starting. I depress the brake and turn the key, but nothing happens. This only happens half of the time. When it doesn't start, I still get the brake indicator light on the dash, as I would expect, but nothing happens. After a few attempts it will start. Usually I end up pulling the key out, pushing in and out on the brake pedal, and other black magic, that I'm not sure is related to it starting successfully. The battery is about two weeks old. All electrical works all the time.

it turns out that I have a short in the electrical somewhere. I havent determined the location, but moving the wiper/cruise control arm on the steering column will short out the lights/radio/etc.. Wonderful.

If it was the fuel pump, the engine would still turn over. He said that when he turns the key, nothing happens at all. Definitely electrical.
