Default 1990 K5 won’t crank or start

Radio quit working when I was driving, I got home checked the fuse for the radio and fuse is good. now the Blazer won’t crank or start. Another thing is that that dome light quit working to, when I turn the switch for the dome light the cigarette lighter quits working 😩 I already changed the starter and the ignition switch but that did not fix the problem. Please help.

I can't help with the specifics, but only give general advice and encouragement.

This sounds like you could have some of the insulation on the wires under the dash that have worn through and are touching each other or grounded.

If you are lucky a visual inspection will reveal the problem areas. I wouldn't be surprised if the worn insulation or damage to the wires is located at a single area, e.g., where the wiring harness is strained being bent going around a piece of metal.

Ideally, you would have a full wiring diagram to use with a multimeter to trace the suspect wires.

Good Luck!

Sounds like the fusible link that goes to the dist block on the firewall has failed as all those are powered from that point. Check the red wire going to the black plastic junction box with 2 studs mounted under the hood near the heater box on the firewall(below image). Use a multimeter or test light to check both ends for 12v if only one end has voltage the fusible link has failed. I believe that wire runs from the alternator to the dist block, it has been a while since I last worked on one. https://www.jegs.com/images/photos/5...55-10521_3.jpg
