Default Bad day for a friend

So i figured you guys might get a kit out of this. A few weekd ago a friend of mine called me and said he was on the side of the road and that his car had over heated rapidly and there was water in his oil. So I said no big deal its a blown head gasket bring it to me and i will fix it. We got a new head for it because the old one was cracked and got the new gaskets and everything. So yesterday i pulled the head and found this:

im not sure how it happened but i have never seen a peice of piston just break off like that. Its a Mazda Protoge or how ever they spell it.
Maybe next time hell get a blazer.

Thats nothing compaired to my firebird. I wish I got pics... The biggest peice of the piston was 1"x2"x1/2"... 30-40 pieces of the piston I found in the oilpan after pulling it. The little 2.8L still drive 150km after it gernaded...

That a GM verses a ford for ya LOL. What was odd about this one is the othere pistons are fine and the only sign of damage to the one is that peice thats missing it looks like someone just cut it off.

Looks like he snapped the rod, then the piston hit the head and broke further.

thats what im guessing happened but i cant see in there and he dosent want to bother pulling the engine seeing as how he dosent have the cash to get the parts to fix it i think he is just gonna sell it as is. It's pretty R.I.C.E.d out any was stickers all over it ugly rims it was time for him to get something better.
