CDL Anyone?
Thanks for the information. That definitely helps clear it up. I maintain mine because it's required for my job, but I rarely drive commercial trucks anymore (and I never drove interstate), so I've never really had to worry about those rules.
Just renewed mine in August. No medical certificate required. I have a Class A CDL but it has a K restriction which dicatates that it is for Intrastate only, not interstate.

Interesting info... I had 2 renew my CDL back in January of this year and I had 2 have a current, valid Medical Card in order 2 keep my CDL or be forced 2 just get a regular driver license... I am currently not driving professionaly right now but I wanted 2 keep my CDL in case I decide 2 get back into trucking... It cost me 3 grand 2 obtain it so I decided I am not giving it up lol...
I just looked it up cuz it was extremely bugging me LOL. according to Publications by JJ Keller, who makes DOT Guidebooks paper driver logs and other Publications, the medical card for interstate is dependent on vehicle weight rating over 10, 001 lbs or passenger vehicle for hire or hazmat requiring placard. but for in-state it is state agency depending where they set their vehicle weight rating. so if you are non passenger non Hazmat under 26k you can have a CDL without medical card in a state that says their intrastate weight rating is higher than 26 k. conversely even chauffeur drivers need a medical card for anything over 10, 001 lbs or 8 passengers or any placard. sheesh.....

That's the nice thing about the government, they don't know either! If you get stopped by po po they look at your license and see the class A and automatically think you drive for a living and either let you off or give you a reduced ticket, at least that's been my experience with them. They're pretty expensive to get also so I'm not giving it up without a struggle.
