Now thinking how much work, and if it would be worth it, to swap to propane...... can take the forklift as reference....

Depend what You're looking for.
In Poland, price per LPG is slightly less than half of the gas. If I didn't screw math, it's $4,80 per gallon of gas here, which is a significant cost. So people choose to convert their engines to run with an LPG installation. The disadvantage is that You'll loose about 10-20% of the engine power.

But I tell You, distilling own fuel in a garage and making Your car run on spirit is way funnier. Not to mention You could make some flavored (tinctured) spirits, stain removers, etc. out of it. Have You seen a Blazer running on potatoes? I haven't! But I wish to be the first one that has

I think I remember seeing a video on YouTube, a teenage boy converted his blazer to electric... great little thing to boot around town...

Electric ride is an excellent good idea for extreme off-road. One electric motor for each hub. Then, instead of making the mechanical differentials, axis locks, ABS, braking and such becomes purely virtual, driven by a mathematical algorithm. But what would be the car that doesn't sound like a car? So on top, You make an electric generator based on our beloved Vortec V6 and alternator.
