Elitist snob trolls really irk me
DOn't get me wrong. I don't think I've really seen one on here. but I'm a long time Linux user and they are rampant on user forums and help groups. It really irks me because I really would still like to see Linux more in the main stream. But I see so many newbies come in and get turned off by some snob that is so hung on his skills he has to flaunt them like a banner and make anyone who isn't at his level feel inadequate. Well as y'all know I stepped up and now am driving a 2000 blazer and a 2005 Trailblazer. thing is the TB has an inop 4x4. Didn't really buy it for the 4x4. But if it has it I want to get it fixed. Did some research and started doing some testing. Thinking that I had a bad control module until I looked underneath and found both my cv axles were removed at some point. turns out my passenger side disconnect is toast. So in a couple weeks I'm gonna get replacement parts. (used at first to at least get it working and make sure there aren't any other problems).
Well anyway, there was a guy on the site I looked up that really got me pointed in the right direction. Then there was another who only posted to point out what a clueless schmuck I was. I mean the whole reason for getting on these sites IS to look for help and info on something we don't know. And yes, the TB has been redesigned enough to be almost a different beast from our little blazers. That doesn't mean mechanical know-how doesn't transfer. And I'm confident enough in my skills to shut him down. what is worse is I read some of his other posts and he "braggs" about being a retired shop mechanic. Typical. Way i see it is you get on here, read learn what you don't konw and pass it on to someone else down the line that might also need the same info. I'll step off my soapbox now. (keep rocking Blazer Forums)

I know what you mean. I see it quite a bit on gun forums. You would think that gun owners and enthusiasts would want to bring in more people, but they often tend to look down on and chase off newbies.
This forum, IMO, is much "nicer" than some other ones I frequent that deal with similar topics. Moderators are pretty laid back, and other members, for the most part, genuinely want to help you. There aren't a bunch of people just trying to make themselves feel superior.
BTW, I've dabbled in Linux a little, and I'm currently running it on one laptop. But I never spent much time on any forums, so I've been spared the BS that you're talking about.

So sorry for your experience. I've found people here to be the type that want to help and educate.
Another world that has users who can be harsh on the newbies is Ham.
I think you got it right when there are people who have their identity tied up in what they know AND the need to have others know it and think they know it all. Maybe they do know more then I do on a certain subject but that is no a license to be a jerk.
Thankfully, this forum has generally good people participating.

which is better, which is newer, and the grand olde RTFM. Linux forums are famous for flame wars. And the guy I dealt with has the same mindset. I mean the whole Idea of these sites is to share info, learn from them and pass on that knowledge to those who need it.
Yeah, I've had similar experiences with my forays into the Linux world. Its really unfortunate when people start flaming others just for asking questions. I agree with Christine_208 about this forum though. We really try to make this as a community who want to help one another learn and expand our knowledge. I know I've learned tons about the S-series truck specifically, and vehicles in general from participating on the forums here.
