I'll second the calamari as long as its done right.
Not some breaded rubber bands like Red Lobster makes.
Of course I'm Italian too, lol

Catch a small catfish. 6-8 inches long or so. Cut the head off and use it. Or get ahold of some gizzard shad. If its legal there (check, its a huge fine if not) use some large goldfish.

Sounds like ya'll need to catch a few walleye.

With the larger cats if you put the filets in an ice cream bucket with cold water and then trickle cold water into it for about an hour it cleans them up real good. If you leave them in too long they get even mushier and although they taste ok it's really soft no matter how long you fry em.

6-10 in. sucker minnows work for the big cats too. get them frozen and put a cut in the belly so the guts ooze out slowly as they thaw.

I use chicken livers on a treble hook wrapped in a bit of panty hose.
a nice heavy weight with a 2 hooks one about a foot off the bottom and the other about 18 inches up from the first.

yeah ive actually used those a few times. but lately the bait shop is always out of them when i get there. so i get shiners. which are only like 2 inches but ill put like 3 on the hook to make up for it. i also caught a drum that swallowed the hook and cut it up and used him as bait without getting anything.
