Wheelin the RC trail trucks in the backyard
#1
Having a brother 10 years younger than me is a lot of fun sometimes...gives me an excuse to still play with toys. We spent turkey day building a course in our parents' backyard for our RC trail trucks. Figured I'd share some pics and a vid:

Well even though Im 35 and have nobody younger to influence me, I still rock the RC truggies cause I never grew up. My kid brother is 30 and he saw mine and went and got his own too. Nothing more fun that tuggin a big reefer and making the depot smell of nitromethanol...
We are like little kids with money with these things.
Mines a Traxxas Revo 3.3 1/8scale, heavily modified - upgraded clutch and brass gears, steel axles and driveshafts, Integy aluminum suspention and mounts, 45% nitrometh fuel, ceramic/cross drilled disc brake, and all the goodies. Sucker even has a K&N air filter. Basic truck is about $550 ready to run, plus we must have about $500 in upgrades into them, plus another $500 in spare parts in the parts box. Not a cheap hobby thats for sure. If you run WOT most of the time, the fuel tank lasts abou 8 minutes, you get about 15-20 out of regular bashing. Fuel is $50 a gallon, and a tank holds about 14oz. The engine is 3.3cc, carbuerated 2-stroke, glow plug ignition, air cooled, and does around 10,000RPM and makes around 2.5HP... pretty impressive for a piston with around 1.5cm bore and stroke. There is a ton of aftermarket for these cars too. The Revo is the #1 rated nitro buggie around.
I shred the local skateparks with it in the summer, and just bash snow in the winter.
I bought my GFs 7yr old daughter a 1/16 E-Revo and a toolbox full of spare parts for chirstmas so that I have someone to go bashing with. I think she will love it.

Even made a mini-copy of my Illverado pickup body for it, the kids at the park get a smile when I roll up in this truck to play with that truck. Its an exact color match.

My brothers with a sweet K5 body on it. Same Integy upgrades and he has the swamper tires too.

Heres a couple vids to share, the first one I think there was some of my hair stuck in the bumpers from the close call. Hes hit me before with it in the leg and I have a nasty scar now... Damn brother needs to learn to control his damn toy. None of the videos show them even close to top speed. I can pass cars on my front street that are doing about 50-60kmph with ease now that the gears are changed and the race gas tuning is done.
If you want the ultimate in speed, you get the Traxxas E-Revo VXL Brushless edition and put dual LiPo batteries in it. it comes with the mamba monster electric engine and is lightning quick, check em out on youtube... This ones prolly $650 to start and another $200 for dual batteries.

NICE! I was a full blown RC addict for a while. I've raced everything from 1:10 electric touring cars to 1:8 nitro buggies to 1:5 electric motorcycles lol. I've been out of the hobby for a while now because the local race scene was starting to get way too serious (and way too expensive) for my liking and it was losing the fun factor so I put it all down and took a break. I find myself easing back into it. I love the hobby.
I've had too many trucks, cars, etc to list but at one point I had built an E-Revo out of a Vantage carbon fiber frame and a Tekno electric conversion...she was so much fun until I snapped her in two:

I even went full nerd and got my Traxxas Slash in the RC Car Action magazine once:
Radio Control Car Action - January 2009
At that time, I had a couple rock crawlers as well. One of which was a trail truck to match the CORR truck. Mega nerd.

The sickest RC vehicle I've ever owned was my Losi 8ight-E 2.0 with a full blown King Headz kit custom ano'd red with a stretched Losi chassis also custom ano'd. I had well over 1500 dumped in this thing and it was an absolute killer on the track. I won a lot of races with this beast.

the highlight of my racing "career" was when I traveled all the way to Motorama in Pennsylvania, partied the whole time and got too drunk to race. The result is in the link, and yeah my videographer was wasted as well lol. good times.

For a while I was into rock crawling around the house, then that sat for a couple of years, now me and my brother both got the traxxas slash 2wd with brushless and lipo battery, we have some snow jumps on the driveway with dry pavement so we can get some good speed for the jump. I'll have to get some videos.
