Default Will the fuel pump not run if out of fuel ?

I finished putting everything back together on this astro van I have been working on. I had it up on jack stands in the front fixing the leak on the timing cover. Not leaking any more. Started it after letting the RTV cure over nite. Started OK but under heavy acceleration sputtered and died. I found a vacuum leak from lines being brittle and fixed that. Still sputtered and died. The fuel guage showed a quarter tank. Only running for maybe 3 min it was getting hot. I stopped because temp sensor plug did not match up. I put a new sensor on that mated with the connector and added some water to the radiator with the motor at idle. It stopped running. After that it would not start and the fuel guage shows empty and no sound from the fuel pump. I can hear the fuel pump relay clicking but no fuel pump.
Customer states the pump was replaced last year.
Without any fuel will the fuel pump try to run?

No cel other than cam and crankshaft correlation due to previous work done and cam was replaced.

Usually, the fuel pump will only run for a short time, maybe 30 seconds or so. If the car doesn't start, you have to recycle the startup procedure.

Agree with MrJP, you can however pull the fuel relay and apply battery voltage to make the pump run as long as you want.

Default Gas

That is a good way to lose the pump . Never run low , fuel cools the pump .
