Default Yeah,we took the Lincoln...

A few weeks back I asked about the logic of taking my 97 Jimmy or my 94 Town Car on a quick blast to Colorado(the wife wanted to take the Jimmy) Most all of you said:Lincoln! I said it too...Anyway,out & back in 12 days;we weren't even 15 hours out of Maryland before my wife agreed that was the right choice! All set up in the HUGE back seat with her Ipod, ipad, iphone(ipaid!) 20 year old car ran flawlessly(low miles) and delivered an average of 26.3 mpg over 5300 miles! Best was 31mpg in eastern CO and western KS heading east with a stout tail wind. First time I have ever driven a car across the plains;as I was a long haul trucker for almost 20 years,it was a treat!

Sounds like a good trip! What was the reason for driving rather than flying? I seem to remember reading it somewhere but I forgot.

Sounds like an awesome trip. There's nothing like driving a large American sedan across the country. I drove big LeSabres for many years and I'm going to fix up my '84 Electra Park Avenue one of these days and get it back on the road.

It was a good trip-but I have driven coast-to-coast HUNDREDS of times, but never in a car! The reason for driving was because it was cheaper! Gas was only about $700 and we didn't have to rent a car when we got there;the whole trip cost less than $1700! That and the fact the nearest airport is 130 miles away from home-we live in the boonies of the east coast...

Where in Colorado did you go? When I moved here in 2010 from North Carolina, I drove the Blazer. I think fuel costs were in the $200 - $250 range, but I also topped off right before I crossed from West Virginia into Ohio because no way in hell was I paying $3/gallon for gas (and to think that this wasn't all that long ago, either).
Nothing runs good in Colorado, I've noticed. Topping it off, 85 octane is regular unleaded here and 87 is mid-grade. 85 is absolutely crap. I was using 89 before I moved here, but I don't have that option anymore, so I run 87.
