First time Jimmy owner
Well, i bought my first house and along with moving out of my parents i was out of the "no trucks" restriction my mom had put on me. So i traded my old RM250 for a 91 2door jimmy 4.3l with 161k on the clock. Ive gone over it and have started replacing items such as idler arm, 4wd switch, hood cable, tuneup, window struts, welded up a new full exhaust etc. Theres still a bunch i would like to do including all new steering components, rear brakes, body work, wheels/tires, new posi. Im pretty confident with mechanics as ive pulled/replaced numerous engines/trans's on my frontwheel and rwd cars. Although i do have a few questions on the jimmy. The keys are cranked WAY uneven, the drivers side is maxed out cranked in and the passenger is all the way out, the passenger side front also sits 1 inch lower, Is there a procedure to resetting these keys? or should i just crank the passenger in so its equal to the drivers side without going over 2" of lift? Also, I got the truck without 4wd working, after reading and troubleshooting, i replaced the 4wd vaccum switch. Now, in 4wd the car will jerk left or right and skateboard all over the place when the gas is hit. only in 4wd, not in 2wd( this is why id like to replace the pittman/Tierods) Any other ideas on how to fix that. I am more of a ford guy although i have have a few Wbody GM's. What do they call the rear end in the jimmy, because i would like to look for a new posi unit. And last question, the heat doesnt really blow that hard or hot, i plan on doing a Thermostat swap and a coolant flush( it runs at 190~) From the looks of it it has a newer blower motor, but is it common for it not to blow that strong? I have 2 newer cars and since ive got this jimmy 2 months ago, ive already put 5k miles on it and im really happy with it, its a 750$ worth no worries beater, and i love it! -Jon
