Found a 2000 Blazer, Need Opinions
Hello all,
I am the owner of a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo that unfortunately needs transmission work. For this reason, I am looking for a new truck...
Recently, I stumbled upon a really nice 2000 Chevrolet Blazer.
I like it a lot, and it seems really nice. It's a 2000, Chevrolet Blazer LT, 94 000 miles at 4 488$.
I wasn't able to test drive it because it was closed but I will be going back on Wednesday to drive it (if it's still there... hopefully).
----------------------------
So what are your opinions?
How are the Blazers?
What should I ask about and look for?
How's this price? (4 488$)
How are they off road?
Thanks, anything is greatly appreciated.

I just bought an 01, and I love it. The thing is pretty sweet offroad (although I'm new to this whole offroading thing)...but overall it seems to handle well.
If it's 4x4 make sure the encoder motor isn't gone it it. 01's (and consequently 00's I think) are terrible for having encoder motors go. They're the motor that attaches to the tranny and actually shifts the truck into 4WD.
Other then that just do your research. I got my truck for a steal ($2k), only because of the few minor things it needed. The price seems about right though. Good condition ones are selling for about the same up here, but always try and talk them down..don't pay full price unless you have to.
Take a swing over to carfax and search for 00's too. I did that with mine and it will list any recalls that effects it and also any known issues or problems.
EDIT: Here's the link to the carfax report for you. Take a browse through

Sounds like a good deal, congrats on the find
I just bought my Jimmy a few months ago, so I just had to go through this kind of stuff too. Here's what helped me narrow down my choices.
1.) Check underneath the truck. Make sure there isn't a coating of rust, and if there is, there's a good chance it was sitting in water/snow for extended periods of time. (seems like kind of a duh, but you'd be surprised)
2.) Engage the 4x4, both 4hi (on the fly) and 4low (stop the car, shift into neutral, hit switch) and make sure everything shifts properly. There's a light on each switch to indicate when you're in.
3.) When you do test drive it, make sure the transmission shifts smoothly and quickly into gear. It shouldn't "slide" lazily into gear. Transmission oil shouldn't smell burnt.
4.) And of course, check all of your fluids, body, etc.
Before I bought my truck, we had it inspected for $100. They can evaluate a lot of things you wouldn't otherwise even notice. It should take an hour or two, but it's the best buyer's protection you can get. You might even be able to negotiate the inspection costs with the seller.
I'm very happy with the offroading capability; tons of confidence in bad weather too. Mud is a blast.
Best of luck. Let us know what you end up getting.
