Default Hi, Blazer Driver from Germany

Hi vogts,

my name is Tobias, I'm 32 years young and live in Germany, Saarland, about 50 miles west from Ramstein air base.

I bought my first Blazer ZR2, a 1998 model, last year september.
Condition... well.. on a scale von 1-10 ( 10 best ) a six. About 130.000 miles but still runnig. Oil leckage somewhere around gearbox cooling and crankshaft seeling on the gearbox side.
Some bad rust on the left and the right sidewall.

Wanted to fix all those things. But now I found a second one.. 500 bucks for a whole car, with no front bumper, bonnet an front archs... but the whole tech things are complete.. engine running, gearbox okay.. body parts all okay.. no rust on the side walls and the rock pillars.
Decided to strip this one as my project car and make a fully frame off rebuild.

Will definitely take about two years till it will be finished, but it will be worth it.

You will hear from me soon. :-)

Cheers
Tobias

That sounds like a good plan Tobias.
Frame-off restorations are fun projects. I just completed one which took me two years. I restored my truck to be a daily driver, so special attention was paid to prevent rust, including two coats of POR-15 on the frame in addition to a topcoat of 3m rubberized undercoating and then a final application of cosmoline.

Since you’ll be taking it all apart, you may also consider a mild cam and exhaust/intake improvements for a moderate power increase.
I did that in addition to a huge list of other things I replaced since I wanted a vehicle that would be as reliable and operate as close to new as possible.

Good luck with your project, there are lots of good suggestions/ideas here if you search through the old posts from when these trucks were newer and the forum was more active with an overall sharper membership that drove/modified their vehicles 👍

Thanks for your reply.

I also will totally restore the engine. Already putted everything in my Rockauto basket xD
Car will be nearly as new, hopefully.

The only thing that will be a bit not very origin will be the paint.
Because I often use the car for hunting and there it will be driven through deep mud, the car and the frame will totally be painted with raptor liner.

I luckily work @ a Jeep/ Fiat / Alfa Romeo work shop, so I have plenty of possibilities to work on.
