In Murfreesboro, TN we have to run it through emissions once a year to renew our tags. OBDII vehicles just get checked for the presence of a cat and checked for DTC's. Older vehicles get the sniffer.
About an hour drive from here though they don't even do emissions testing.

Further to what foxxie says, apart from fitting the steering on the right side, tails with an extra bulb AND those great FENDER FLARES, our Blazers were shipped from New Jersey to Japan. The specs as I've seen them are all the same. Even the cat looks the same as shown in the Haynes manual.
Emmision controls here are difficult to control 'cause a huge proportion of vehicles imported into New Zealand are around 8 years old. I think this is the current situation. No imports older than 2002. Therefore emmission regulations would need to apply as for 2002 models but the at the same time allowance must be made for the much older vehicles.
I do recall reading, some time back, that the average age of cars in New Zealand is around15 years. I'll see if I can dig it out.
