New guy - got a ton of help already - thanks!
A friend of mine from work offered me his father's 98 4-door Blazer along with a nice list of things wrong with it. I googled to see if it would be an un-ending money pit, and what kind of community there was out here. I have a 91 wrangler, and the Jeep boards have kept that thing on the road year after year. I wasn't hopeful that Blazers would have a similar community, but I found my way here and was very happy.
I am pretty good with my hands, but really have no mechanical background. I really don't have a good environment to get into anything beyond minor fixes, but information is power especially when forced to use a mechanic.
Before I got the Blazer, my buddy had put in new shocks, brakes and rotors.
I have since had the ball joints, a motormount and a leaf spring & shackle replaced. Will be replacing the other shackle this week.
The rest of the known issues are - manifold gasket, a/c compressor leak, anti lock light, air bag light. The underside is pretty rusted, so I'm sure more issues will arise.
If she holds up well for the next year, I would like to lift her a bit and make it a little more trail worthy, but for now, I just want a dependable 4x4 that actually has locking doors. Leaving a few thousand dollars of music equipment in a soft-top jeep, even for a few minutes, scare the crap out of me.
Thank you everyone, for all the help you have unknowingly already given me.
