welcome to the show brother.

the 4.3 swap is simple, just need an engine & trans/t-case. there is even an aftermarket intake for the 4.3 (from Edelbrock, i think), so you don't need to get a truck with the wiring harness for the computer.

you mention that your family has owned the truck since new, what are the backing plates like? if they're really worn where the shoes sit, it can cause the brakes to "grab" in the grooves.
