Hey all. Newbie here. Lifelong wrench and past "Chevy guy" - Had a 67 Chevelle in HS. Swapped around some cars recently. My 22 y/o kid had a 2013 Hyundai but always wanted an off-road vehicle. A week ago friday some nut ran him off the road and GEICO totaled the Hyundai and put him on the hunt. He looked at some crap already built vehicles and I talked him down and helped him find a good platform to start from.
Picked up this 2000 Blazer LT with about 150k on it for $1400. Very little rust and most everything is working on it. First steps will be 31 inch MTs and a 2 1/2 suspension lift (shocks are real tired anyway). Looking forward to helping him out with it and teaching some mechanics to the Next Gen...
With the proceeds from the Hyundai I also bought myself a little 1995 one owner S10 pickup - short cab long bed. Always wanted a little truck, now I got one for another $1200. So we are now a dual S10 family in one weekend - LOL.
Don't hate me but I also have a 2012 Liberty as my DD (no mods - LOL) and also have a couple of classic sports cars (British MGs).
Look forward to picking brains as I help my kid with his build. He's a lot guy at a used car dealershp so has lots of hookups for detaililng, parts, repairs etc...
Thanks Don - I think I have S10 fever... Going to look at yet another Blazer up north of me today. It's a 2004 and the owner description on the phone places it nicer than my kid's.
I am noodling the idea of getting rid of the Jeep. The 2012 Liberty is the last year I could remotely call a Jeep a Jeep and it just turned 100k miles. After that reliability starts to become a crap shoot especially electrics. I could by 5 Gen 3 Blazers for the current KBB of the Jeep - LOL...
Lol I hear ya... I'm currently trying to sell my little civic beater to find an s10 for the wife to have as a dd, then sell her malibu to buy a s10 zr2 for my dd and keep the blazer as my toy, looking into pricing and parts for a SAS on her at the moment.
