ive got a broken one still on mine and the other is bent so im looking to replace them with some solid home made jobbies maybe even take a tow hitch and mod it to fit in the front so it puts an even strain on the frame from both sides and doesnt bend anything then get a tow hook from a 3500 or f350 or maybe semi tow truck and slap that on there but strength is something you can never have enough of

I'd love those 2" tubes for my Blazer... but currently my only option is a front mount reciever....

Though, Jiggs winch is in exactly the same place I want mine to go... But I've got no idea how to make it mount up in there, lol

I think I am going to do this conversion of towhooks on the front cause I dont think I am going to get a brushguard afterall, but still want to mount the fog lights I have and still have tow hooks. I actually completely forgot about this thread till I saw drperry post on it. I was waiting for my dad to get home so I could take his tow hook off of the suburban and see if it will work good. The lights I have are to wide to fit in the spot between the towhooks and the plastic, which is where I want to mount them. So I will definately be looking into this and will post up pics if I do the conversion.

I bent a tow hook pulling a Heep out of the mud. He was on 33" with 4" of lift and buried to the frame. I go thim out, howver my hook straightened out some.

I prefer shackles to tow hooks. The strap can slip off a tow hook. What ever you use hook it to the frame.

I don't recommend using hte step bumper for seriously stuck vehicles. It is only rated to 3,500 pounds. I use it to pull poeple out of the ditch in the winter, but not for vehicles stuck in the mud.

Reverse clutch pack doesn't have as many clutches are any of the forward gears. So yes, it is weeker. Plus it doesn't have as low gearing as 1st gear. Always try to pull people out in forward gears when possible. Your tranny will live longer.

I should replace my front tow hooks with something more durable, since my reverse islower than my 1st gear... Yay for 5 speed! lol.

That's why I want a front mount reciever or something like Jiggs reciever tubes for the frame rails... So the connection is a little beefier, and so I can leave the strap attatched while playing in the mud in case I get burried and the hooks are too deep, lol.

Are you sure about that?
I believe 5 pseed manuals have an even lower first gear then the 4 speed autos. The manual first gear is like 3.4 while the auto is 3.06 and reverse is like 2.29 or something like that.

1st in the 5 speed is 3.49

However, reverse is 3.55

At least according to this paperwork...

Which is part of what has me confused about the 5 speed being able to tow 1000lbs less than the automatic, lol

Well I'll be dipped in ****.
Reverse on the manual tranny is actually lower then first gear. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that.

Did you notice the auto was 2.29 for reverse. Thought It was in that ballpark. Just didn't realize the manual was lower. Thanks for straightening me out.

According to that data, you can tow a little more than an automatic with the manual. If you have a 2wd xtreme Blazer, their tow rating is 2000 lbs.

Trailer towing maximum (lb / kg):
2WD*: 5700 / 2585
4WD: 5400 / 2449

* 2-dr / 2WD Xtreme = 2,000 lb. (900 kg)

2.29 is the reverse for the auto, lol..

3rd on the auto is equal to 4th on the 5 speed, at 1.00.

However 4th on the auto is 0.70, while the 5 speed is 0.78 in 5th...
