drperry, you actually reminded me that i really need to get some skids made. Thought about it once and kinda put in on the back burner. Gotta get my lazy butt down to the steel supply store and pickup some flat stock one of these days.

I've gotta work out some sort if skidplate that can protect things and doesn't weigh massive amounts of weight... And is easy to take off to clean out, lol.

good thread

I thought most of these trucks did come with skid plates, im surprised to see how many dont. sure am glad mine does, prolly already saved me big $$$$.

lol, I know what you all mean about 4lo bustin stuff.....feels like the engine wants to jump right out n bite a ford! lol

since theres so many of us all lookin for a 2" BL we should try and get a group buy or something similar........anyone have any good links?

I need a few inches atleast......I broke my front bumper trying to drive over a garbage can [8D]

how can I tell what gears ratios I have?.......not that I understand it but it would be nice to learn.

the gear ratio tells you how many tuns of the driveshaft it takes to turn the rear axle one complete turn. inside the glove box will have all of the RPO codes which will let you know what gearing your truck has. im not sure exactly what code you need to look for though. mine says GU6 which is the 3.42:1 gear ratio which means that the drivshaft rotates 3.42 times in order for the tire to rotate once. higher gear ratios (which are actually a lower number like 3.03) will give you better mpg and lower gear ratios (which are higher numbers like 3.73 or 4.1) will give you more torque meaning you can fit larger tires without putting a lot of strain on the engine

if you writeall of your RPO codesdown, here is an RPO calculator which will tell you all of the options that your vehicle has

They've got the plastic one up front where you open the door to the oil filter... but that's it...

IIRC, some of the first gens got a plate in the middle somewhere

the lmc truck has 3 available skidplates in plastic, composite or aluminum. some of them say W/ZR2 but it looks like you can get all3 even if you don't have a ZR2
