Gutting a tape deck and putting the dock in that would be pretty cool. I gutted my cassette deck in my Blazer and installed an original NES, so the game loads where the old cassettes would.

I was going to add a USB hub to my overhead console and run a wire up to it so I could put a removable harddrive in it when on the road. You could easily apply this to your idea. If you look online you can find a cheap hub, then unsolder the usb connectors and solder on some header pins(like on a computer motherboard). Thenyou can get a USB IO backplate for a PC for dirt cheap, they are like a mountable usb connector with pin header on the other end. This way you could "route" the usb connectorrs wereyou want.
I have however seen a post were a guy put a PC in his blazer and put the DVD-ROM drive in that tapedeck hole your talking about. Don't remember were I saw it though.
EDIT: This is assuming you are usingaUSB dock, if your using an audio dock then it would be diffrent obviously.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six.
Just gutted out the cassette, gutted an NES, used some sheet medal to make a bottom to hold the guts, etc. Ive done a few things to it since then but not full finished with it yet either. Im bad about starting a project before another is done, haha. But it turned out pretty badass so far.

I just installed an Alpine ida-x100. It has a direct usb feed for an ipod. I ran it through the ashtray and my ipod fits perfectly in there. I can close it when I'm not driving and you'd have no idea it's in there. If your a smoker, that probably won't work.
