Ok, I have a 2000 Blazer and the original girll is a gray color and its peeling looks gross and I want to paint it black. Now im not sure If i paint the whole thing black but the bowtie or I paint it all black but the chrome line in the middle along with the bowtie. Also anyone suggest sanding it down with what grit first? and im probally going to do it with a gloss black. Heres what I cant decide, to paint it all like this or to leave the middle chrome?

 

i would strongly suggest leaving the middle chrome, i think if it was all black it would be too much, the chrome enhances the front end quite a bit, just my 2 cents though, your choice in the end.

 

The only reason I was thinking about painting the chrome was because of 1baddblazers pics. If you dont mind please take a look and I could deff use the help

actually after seeing that i must say it does look pretty good, in that case go for it, i would just sand everything down with a high grit sand paper...maybe 1000?...dont take my word for it though, but remember preparation is key and will pay off.

 

Start at a rough paper, like 160 and then work your way down to like 2000... prime, sand, prime again, sand again, paint, sand, paint then clear for optimal results.

When you're sanding the primer, use a wet sand, it's just to get minor imperfections out. Also, use a plastic primer if you can.

 

I know this isn't what you asked but I would paint it the same color as the rest of the truck.

Well i used this rubbing liquid that removes gloss and acts like liquid sandpaper, and painted my grill black and my bowtie red and it came out great! The reds the same color as the truck but it looks different and im not sure why though. Probally the paint fade of differnce after 10 years. Oh also did a whole front end cleaning with the hose and purple power. Got out so much mud and leaves in front of the radiator and what not. Trucks running cooler and A/C seams cooler also!
