Painting
Well i am thinking about painting the rear window piller. Is it able to be takin out and put back in without screwing things up? Is it a easy process? Haven't really looked at the rear bumper but is it easy taking of so i can paint?
I don't know if this will help, but if you have the liftgate, just open the hatchit and take out the securing screws on the side ofthe "pillar" (rear window finishing panel). I have never taken the rear bumper off, so I'm not sure about how to take it off.
The rear bumper is pretty simple to get off. Its 4 bolts on each frame rail, 2 on top 2 on bottom. The tricky part is that they are welded to each other, so you can only work with the nuts on the inside of the bumper.
First step is to pop off the license plate lights. Then you have to pull up the top plastic step pad (just snaps in) to expose the top 2 bolts on each frame rail, then get underneath and take off the nuts. The bolts then lift out. Same with the bottom, but you can get right at the nuts and the bolts drop out. Bumper then slides off the frame rails, away from the truck.
If youve got rust, been in a collision (bent bumper) or anything else, it'll be a little harder to 'slide' the bumper off.
Edit: Saw you've got a 96...Double checked in LMC and it looks to be the same. It doesnt show the lower 2 bolts, but then again, it doesnt show them on the 98+ either
