Default plastic mesh circle in the headliner

I've seen this plastic circle thing before but I've never been sure what it was. I assumed it just covered a bolt that held the headliner in. It's above the drivers seat where the handle on the roof should be.

Anyways, I was unbolting things from the ceiling and after popping the plastic thing off, I noticed there was something back there behind it. After I had the headliner completely removed, I realized there are wires that join up with the overhead console wiring and run down the a-pillar.

After thinking about, it may be for the computer controlled AC thing. Maybe an interior temp sensor to let the ac know when to stop blowing. Anyone know for sure what it is?

You got it!

I raised that question about 2 years ago when i had this strange noise above my head - sounded like a speaker crackling! LOL

Temp sensor for auto climate control. It's got a little fan thing in it which sucks the air in & over the sensor & sends the signal to the climate control.

Awesome thanks guys. Perhaps the caked up dust and lint is why the auto feature is always so erratic...

Could definitely influence the operation of the ACC!
