Default Replacement hood

I have a 98 Blazer LT. My hood is too heavy to lift. Can I have it replaced with a lighter one?

I'm sure you could put a fiberglass hood on it. But I've also seen kits to put pressurized gas struts on it so it's easier to lift and stays open without the prop rod. That might be a better solution.

Here's one on Amazon

That kit isn't cheap but, if you're handy, I'm sure you could buy the parts and make a "kit" yourself to save a few bucks. It doesn't look like there's anything there that's specific to the S-10.

Thank you. I found the one for 95-05 Blazer on Redlinetuning.com. The kit is not cheap. What parts would I need to make the “kit” myself?

You need the struts, the brackets, and the hardware. You'd need to figure out which ones work, and the best way to mount them. When you buy the kit, you're paying for that work that somebody has already done.

Where can I buy the struts and brackets needed to make a pressurized front hood lift “kit”? I use a walker so I can not go in a junkyard. Are the brackets for rear car trunks universal?

Amazon has lots of different ones. I've never personally done this upgrade, so I wouldn't really know where to start as far as what pressure struts to use, or exactly how to mount them (things like the mounting angle make a big difference in how they work). Maybe get the struts meant for the rear lift gate and go from there?

To be honest, if you're not prepared to possibly get it wrong and have to redo it, you would probably be best off buying the kit. It's expensive, but you know it's going to do what you need.

I bought the kit. I thought it would take 20 minutes or less for my mechanic to install it. He had to move the ABS control unit over about 1-1 1/2 inches, so it took him over an hour. Including the parts, this cost me around $180 total. Its worth it to me though.

180 bucks isn't terrible. Glad it worked out for you.
