Skid Plate, Cb Question

Okay, so I have two questions to ask here.

1) Skid plate, I need to put the front diffy skid plate on. I have the right brackets, but not sure exactly where they attach. I think I have the spot that they bolt in to. If you look at the picture, do I unbolt the circled bolt and install this bolt and bracket combo where that bolt was?

Here is pic: Right side of oil pan

Second pic: Bolt on left side of oil pan
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...late_Bolt3.jpg

Is it at simple as taking out that bolt and putting in the bracket and bolt combo?

Okay 2nd question

2) I need to hook up my cb up also. I have decided to mount it in the bumper. My problem is how to run the cable from the antenna to the cb inside. What is the best way to run this cable? I've heard run it with the frame and I also heard run it through the taillight? Which one would you suggest? If you run it through the taillight, where do you go after you run it through the taillight? Under the carpet?

I go through the rear door and under the edge of the carpet to the back seat, then ontop of the driveshaft hump under the huskey liner along the side of the center counsel, then to the CB.

Would you mind posting up a pic if at all possible? You have the cable from your bumper to the rear door? Does your door still close okay? lol.

Yes that is where the bolts attach (in your picture) I think its easier if you jack the front end up to take weight off that bolt and then take it out, and also if you use the longer bolt that comes with the bracket then you will have a really hard time getting the bolt in because the oil pan is in the way.

So I should goto the hardware store and get a shorter bolt? Do you know what size you got?

I think it took a breaker bar and bending the bolt off the blaze at the yard to get it past the oil pan. So a short bolt sounds good to me.

And I would rather just get under there and remove that bolt and then bolt the skid plate up without jacking it up. I don't have access to a jack right now besides the emergency jack in that compartment in the blaze.

97cherryblazer 03-06-2012 11:44 PM

Well actually the one that is on there now is a little shorter than the bolts that are on the blazers with skid plates, so its easier to get off. Or at least mine was, It cleared the oil pan with not to big of a struggle. But yes i do know exactly what you mean by its a pain to get those out.. It took a lot of swearing and pounding on it to get it off at the junk yard.

So i would just reuse the bolts that you take out, thats what i did.

Okay, sounds like a plan to me! They shouldn't be too short with the bracket. I'll try to get this done tomorrow. It's a tight squeeze without a jack, but I barely fit under there. Tall and slender fits the bill lol.

Thanks for the help everybody! I got the skid plate on two days ago. I used a longer bolt one side of the oil pan and a shorter bolt on the other based on how much room I had on each side of the oil pan. The bracket and plate are both on there. The bolts that bolt into the bracket wouldn't screw tight so I added a nut to each of the two bolts and now they are tight!

I finally decided what to do about the cb. Thanks for the wiring help! And I have decided to get a piece of flat steel bar stock and drill a hole in it and mount the antenna on that piece of stock. There is a bolt right under the bumper and I can bolt the flat piece of bar stock to that bolt and bolt the antenna to the stock and boom! Awesomeness! This way I won't have to have an ugly hole in my bumper and I'll get better reception! Win, win!

Which manual is this from?? looks a bit more useful that the Haines manual I picked up... So as far as getting the brackets for that plate that covers the front diff and oil pan on, all I have to worry about it getting the weight off the wheels?

xgiovannix12 07-11-2012 01:01 AM

this is a GM service manual
its the ones the dealers use

alex.graham89 07-11-2012 01:04 AM

Damn, probably means I can't afford it

xgiovannix12 07-11-2012 01:08 AM

you can find them for a decent price on ebay

took me 2 months to find one for 25 bucks and it was in decent shape too

haha only 4 months... not like some people who dig out one thats been sitting for 3 years.

But to answer your question i dont believe you need to take the weight off the wheels or at least i dont think i did but to be safe you might want to.

alex.graham89 07-12-2012 11:34 AM

Thanks for the advice!
I must say I have been tempted to blow the dust off some 1-2 year old posts once or twice...
