Default spare tire rack???

Hey, I see some blazers with the bars/rack??? bolted on the back of there blazer to hold the spare tire on. I have a 96 blazer and I dont have one. My question is could I put one on? They look like they just bolt on? If I could put one on what years would work for me? And is there a place on line that sells them or would i be better off going to a junk yard? any help would be great. thanks Jay

Im not sure if the ones that didnt have it have the bracing behind the quarter panel for it, yes its a bolt on but im not sure if its gonna be that easy for you.

You might want to just get a new gate that has the rack stuff already on it, probably going to be easier to find a matching one instead of all the fabrication that may be involved. I have a spare tire rack sitting in the garage, but its for a 1st gen( 93 and prior)

Thanks, I was actually just doing a search and it seems most people that have them, have nothing to say but bad things about them. Seems they wear out and rattle a lot. Along with blocking visuabilityin back window. Might just try and find a roof rack to hold my spare instead.

Uh-huh. Especially since the tire is mounted so high on the back, the visibility is gone. I'd go with the safari rack, if I were you. It's way too much trouble to mount the tire on the rear of your truck. From this website, the rack is about $461. I am sure there are many other places to buy them, but I found this one in about 2 seconds.
