tail gate problem

I'm gonna get the picture of mine up hopefully tonight.
It's a long process to get the pictures on the computer hah
But where the glass release is there's that metal tab that sticks up and when I Try to unlock the gate it hits that tab BUT if I move the tab a little bit it back would work as normal. So do I need to get a new rod? Cause I remember bending it on accident I wonder if I got the proper rod that's supposed to be on there if it would equal back out, and open how it should.
