130 mile commute
The idea of doing an engine swap is a hell of a lot of work though. Beyond that it would probably cost a lot more in time and parts then it would go pick up a compact clunker car that you can use for commuting. Besides that I'm not sure I'd want a 4 banger in my Blazer. It's a awfully big vehicle to be pulled around by a 4cyl.
It still comes down to the fact you're using a Blazer for a very large commute each day. You will never see a decent amount of gas mileage out of it, so if it's really that big of an issue I raise the question again, why are you using a Blazer as a DD for commuting?

ideally with tons of free time and free $, i would too....
as for a 4 banger either get a 2.2l (or is it 2.0?) out of a chevy tracker, or just get yourself a $2,700 Silver '02 2 dr convertable ZR2 Tracker....
hell, get it as a manual and enjoy your 4x4 with 23mpg rating
