Honestly, there's very little you can do to a 2.8 without spending so much money as to be completely impractical. They jsut were not designed with that in mind and the aftermarket for performance parts is extremely limited. If you want to be able to use the transmission that's in it now, you could take a 3.4 that was used in Camaros and Firebirds from the same time period and swap it in since it will mate up to the tranny.

Being as these are pretty popular in sprint car classes there are tons of parts out there, there is even a cult following with them in the fiero crowd. I laugh when I see anybody say that. Just because the engine isn't as popular as the 4.3 doesn't mean the aftermarket doesn't support it. Anything you can find for a 4.3 I bet I can just as easily find for a 2.8, from turbo and supercharger kits down to simple roller rocker arms and cams. I really wish people would stop giving out false info on engines for whatever reason. If you don't understand them or know about them thats fine just state so.

While I do agree I wouldn't spend much time inside the engine on better parts all the aftermarket parts like roller rockers and headers work on the 3.4 also. I would really look into swapping in a 3.4 out of a camaro first. You get all the HP the 4.3s had but they are lighter and tend to be better on gas then the bigger v6. If you just want to keep the 2.8 I would have the intake bored out to take the 4.3/v8 throttle body. You can then look into roller rockers and a cam. I know comp cams makes cam kits for them.

thanks guys i appreciate the ideas i don't really have the time or money for an engine swap. how much of an increase will a throttle body spacer give me. i've already put a glasspack and a k&n air filter on her how do you flip the lid on the air cleaner? it doesn't close all th way does it help or hurt.

A spacer is pointless on a 2.8, the intake doesn't need it. Matter of fact they about the same on a 4.3 as the intakes have more than enough room in them from the factory. I run an open cleaner with a K&N on mine and mud bog it. I have a prefilter I put on it when I get dirty that wraps around it but over all I've never had much of a problem. Just try to keep as much crap out of it as you can. Truth be known I sucked up more water when the factory snorkel was hooked up to the core support than I ever do now with mine looking like this.
