When I was the parts delivery guy for interstate auto parts I used to deliver to this garage that built a drag car out of a plymouth horrizon . He said it had over 400 hp , out of a 4 cylinder engine , now that awesome . And it such a light car it had to be a rocket , and you never had to worry about anyone stealing it , because plymouth build a anti lock out devise right on the door handle . Just touch them and they fall off .

If he's going to do a boosted 4.3L or a v8 swap, 400hp is 400hp, he's going to blow transmissions either way you look at it. I highly doubt he's going to swap the trans with the 350, he'd bolt it to the stock 4l60. In that case, it'd still be cheaper to boost the stock 4.3 and throw in a modded, or upgraded transmission. 350's are cool and all, but a turbo 4.3L is alot more unique.

with out doing ricer math...... true 400 HP (measured on a dyno, again no ricer math) on a boosted and stroked 4.3L would end in a busted crank.

400 HP on a V6 would also do more damage to a transmission than a 400 hp 350...... something to do with power frequency and other things that are over my head

it's not Ricer math, it's where it's measured math.

Import guy tend to give gross (crank) ratings versus net (@ the wheel) ratings. hence why it's refered to "Ricer HP".

besides, like i stated above, you don't even need 400 horse to break these cranks.

What do you plan to do in this 400 rwhp Blazer? I don't think a Blazer is what you're looking for....

400hp on a boosted v6 will be alot easier on the transmission as it will be higher rpm power. The powerband will be alot lower on a 400hp 350, not to mention it'll make more torque, alot lower. Causing more strain on the driveline.

You can build a DIY turbo kit on the cheap even if you cant weld. If you can learn, have general mechanical experience, work a saw, and tack weld your in buisness. You can find good used turbos for next to nothing. Pipe for free if you look around. Even new mandrel bent pipe can be bought on the cheap. Oil lines can be made up cheap. You can build a setup that works great and looks decent for less than 400$ if you do the correct research and become a thrifty shopper.

Yeah the stock 6.0 (LS2) sports around 400 horses. You can build up a 5.3 LS based engine to 400 rather easily. TCI transmissions or better yet, Monster Transmissions, they have beefed up transmissions and transfer cases that can handle 675 horses N/A. Having the fasted Blazer in town isn't cheap, if you want the bragging rights you've got to be willing to spend the money. The stock 4.3 wasn't designed to handle more than 250 without self destruction in the near future, even with upgraded internals you'd be lucky to see 300 ponies at the flexplate/flywheel. And remember you'll lose 20% of that through the rest of the drive train.

Subaru has built a 1,000 inline four cylinder. They use it for rally racing, I haven't followed into how they did it, I know its turboed. Just something to add to the drool factors.
