Default how to improve mpgs

ok well i just had my plugs changed and figured that might help my mpgs, well it still sux(the lil computer in my ceiling in the bravada says a constant avg of 14-16,and that sux)..hell yesterday i went 20 miles to a friends apt..i had around half a tank(granted my gas guage isnt 100% accurate) and by the time i got to her place i had 1/4 tank..now ik it shouldn't take a 1/4 tank to drive 20 miles(19.9 according to gps),so i got somethin still wrong here but, most of the mechanically knowledgeable people ik drive tuners and cant give me good idea's on what i might do to help my situation..so what are some ideas i might try to get some gains in mpgs(and maybe hp if it happens in conjunction)..a couple ideas i had were
-CAI(heard it gives mpg and hp gains)
-injector cleaner stuff
-checking my air filter on my stock intake, the K&N has being in it for about 5k miles
well thats it,thats all i came up w/..i was considering the CAI cuz but idk much about CAI's on the 4.3,so im not sure id the ones i see on ebay would work for me at all,so plz gimme some advice..thanx guys

some cai systems will give you a jump. my k&n gave me about 1-2mpg, that is if you can keep your foot off the throttle because you can hear the intake around 3000 and its addicting. i wouldn't trust the instant mileage, they're not always accurate. double check it manually. fill up on gas, reset your trip odometer, drive to half tank. fill up. take the miles traveled divided by gallons filled. injector cleaner will help. if you did plugs you should probably do cap, rotor and wires, weight is another thing that will effect your mpg. travel as light as possible if you can. shifting aroung 2000 rpms will help also (yes even in an automatic) just take your foot off the throttle a little bit. also you could use a vac, i had a write up i'll find for you

here it is https://blazerforum.com/forum/showth...t=vacuum+gauge

cool thanks for the really good advice..I'll prolly just go w/ the instant mpgs for now cuz im unemployed and to fill up the tank would cost a bit,but thats def worth a try once i get the $.I am gonna def try the injector cleaner though as soon as i make it to the parts store..and as for cap, rotor and wires..i had a shop do the plugs but im sure i could handle the above mentioned parts.and the only weight i have in my truck is really my sub box and i like my bass lol ,now how would i do this shifting at 2k thing?..and im def gonna be lookin at a CAI,the mpg increase might be nice, plus id like to say i at least did one semi-perf mod lol

what shop did it? doesn't always mean they did it right, remember the explorer i was telling you about. a shop did that one too. guy brought it to our class wondering what the heck was wrong. my instructor found the plug but couldn't figure how the heck he was going to get it out. i showed him the wheel well trick. as far as shifing these trucks will shift at about 2500rpm , just as it gets to 2000 let your foot of the gas pedal until the rpm drops to 1500. then resume pushing the gas, you'll feel it shift. this will help a little. had a v10 f250 i had to do this to squeak out 10mpg, play around with it a little. it may not be exactly 2000 either it might be 2100 or 1900. gotta do a little experimenting with it.

a high flow exhaust CAN help. it adds air flow which improves back pressure which adds a small amount of power, which means the engine has more horse power to work off of and doesnt have to work as hard. Not a big difference but all the little things add up

panthers is right but once again like said before..... YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR FOOT OFF THE PEDAL.......LOL its so tempting to accelerate more when your hear all the goodness that comes from intake and exhaust and horsepower.........lol

well i looked on ebay and found some decent CAI's but i have seen somethin on here that said that the CAI's need a separating box or what ever its called to actually be effective and not draw the hot air..now the ones i have looked at on ebay dont seem to include this box thing..so how hard would it be to make one,im pretty hand at making stuff.so would an ebay intake and a one of those separator things(could someone here post up a pic here plz??)do the trick??

The 97 Bravada IIRC is an AWD vehicle. Which means the front axle is always engaged. I believe it was a 70/30 split. They did get worse mileage than the standard Blazer with the 3 button 4x4 system. My 96 gets 20-22 mpg highway and about 15-18 in town. Mine is pretty much stock, it has all-season 235-75-15's on it.

Theres a discussion thread in the DIY section here on how to make a heat shield. I got on on eBay for $65 shipped with a heat shield. If you want I'll send you a link.
