1986 front drive shaft CV joint
First off, here's the details:
1986 M1009 (modified K5 Blazer)
J code diesel engine
38000 miles
No front drive shaft / military pulled it for reasons unknown
Bought a replacement drive shaft from the local salvage yard. Came with all bolts, etc. Front U joint had some grinding so I'm going to replace it. Rear CV joint is very stiff and I want to rebuild it. Problem: no snap rings. Question: is it rebuildable?

its actually supposed to be stiff. well kinda like jumpy if that makes any sense. like if you try to bend it the other way it should be kinda stiff then slam over to the other side. if it has no play in the actual u joints themselves then its good. they have some kinda center ball bearing.
also its normal for those things to have no c clips. i think they have those little plastic worms you have to burn out. i had a bad one before and was gonna rebuild it then said the heck with it and just used a spare shaft i had laying around. google around to see how complicated it is, it doesnt look like much fun. also see how much a driveshaft shop will charge.

Thank you abig84. I looked at the D/S, figured I'd give it a chance, took the pressure washer to it. I cleaned 95% of the gunk off and found a needle fitting where I could squirt some grease into the joint. I replaced the front U joint, cleaned it all up and installed it. Took it out today to test it, it works fine. No noise or clatter.
