Default 4by4 help please

I have a 99 jimmy 3 button. When I try to put in 4wheel it won't go to 4wheel hi but in neutral it will go to 4lo but says 4hi and 4lo. It also won't shift out of first gear when like this but 4wheel works just only in first gear but will switch right Bach to 2hi no problem. Please help

Can you further define the symptoms with some more explicit details?

For example: Can you tell the front axle is engaged when in 4wd by driving around or are you going by the indicator lights on the dash? Are you hearing any noises from the transfer case or from the passenger side kick panel behind which the transfer case control module (TCCM) is located?

No it goes into 4lo I'm pretty sure could be 4hi but sounds more like lo but won't shift gears at all once driving and both lights are on for 4hi and lo. I hear it actually shift into 4wheel and all tires ingaged
