Default 4wd has a mind of its own

I did some reading and did not find anything to help me. I am leaning to a bad connection somewhere, But I am not sure where
The 4wd works perfect, when it works. Today for instance, snowing real hard, drove to nephews b-day party with 4wd working, parked the truck and turned it off. Got out to leave, went to push the 4wd button, and nothing lit up, and it did not engage, did not hear any of the clicks I usually hear to know its engaged (along with the 4hi light lit up) So I had to start limping it home, by this time i was pretty pissed off, what a perfect time to do this.
so half way home, i was like "forget it, i will try it just for fun" pushed the 4hi button, and bam, it was working again. I have just left it on since because the roads are that bad

When it decides not to work, the switch still does the one blink when you turn the truck on, like its supposed to.

So that leads me to believe there is a faulty connection. Any ideas where to start?

IM glad i dont have this issue any more . Id start by the encoder motor and then work your way to those 2 plugs under the hood...

Then work your way to the tccm under the passenger side of the dash.

Thanks, Because i know for sure its not a vac problem. so it has to be a bad connection somewhere.

well good news is it is nothing serious. I jumped pin J and A on the DLC for the 4wd and it threw no codes, there is not a vac leak, so I am going to start cleaning the connections 1 by one. I am going to start at the transfer case and work my way to the engine bay, and then to the tccc. Sound like a good plan of action?

Would not do that to it either, I want to keep it all OG (minus some cosmetic things, tail lights, headlights)
