what all would you need to do to change a 4x4 blazer to a just rear wheel drive blazer???? such as different steering knuckle and would anything have to be change suspension or trans wise?????????? or would it be cheaper to fix the long list of issues with the front drive train which include
Worn cv shafts
stripped caliper lower mount
wheel bearings on the way out
ball joints need replaced (this will happen either way)
just to name some.........................

Wow!!! Alright where do we begin. Your Blazer is only rwd unless you engage the 4x4. The CV shafts are the only thing you might be able toget away with not having and even then I'm not sure I'm thinking they should be in place. The (stripped caliper lower mount) is for your brakes and you have to have brakes on the truck especially on the front. So that has to be addressed before driving the truck anymore period!! The wheel bearings are needed to make your wheels go round. These also need to be addressed sooner than later to prevent any other damage from occuring. Seems like you understand that the ball joints need to be replaced. Our trucks don't have a steering knuckle so not sure what your going to change there. Suspension and trans don't need to be touched. So the answer to your question is yes fix all the things that need to be fixed and just don't touch the little button on your dash that says 4wd. Or just sell your truck and buy a 2wd but given that you live in NY I would say having 4x4 is a good thing with the snow you guys get up there. Sorry if that came off a little abrasive I wasn't trying to be rude, but I really think you should do some more research and reading about your truck so you can really learn about it and how it operates.

i guessing that to answer your question to the basic answer is, just remove the front drive shaft, bam 2wd, ofcourse this wont fix any of the other issues listed in your post but you will have 2wd, then im thinking, why not drain the front diff oil and then remove the front cv axles, dissasemble the threaded end and reinsert that back with the axle nut to hold the front bearing together, and i have fount that a cap from a gallon jug of motor oil will fit in the seal on the front diff to keep the dirt out of that... kinda ghetto but 2wd, heck you may also pick up a couple mpg along the way....
